18th Biennial Uncommon Height Award Gala
WASHINGTON, D.C. – WUSA9 Anchor Lesli Foster and the Party Kingpin DJ QuickSilva will serve as host and emcee at the National Council of Negro Women (NCNW) 18th Biennial Uncommon Height Awards Gala, on Dec. 8, at the Gaylord National Harbor Resort in Oxon Hill, Md. This event is the organization’s signature fundraising event, with proceeds raised being used to fund programs of critical concern known as the core four – health, education, economic justice, and social justice.
This year’s event host, Ms. Foster, can be seen each weeknight at 5, 6 and 11 PM. In addition, she also leads the station’s “Impact” series that links WUSA9 journalists with the community to solve problems. In 2017, this show became the signature vessel for the work that speaks most to her heart: shining a light on issues and people that allow the team to explore the vast space of humanity.
Since launching her career at WEYI-TV outside of Flint, Mich. and reporting for WBAL-TV in Baltimore, Ms. Foster’s career work has been recognized with numerous awards including three Emmys for Best Anchor – plus numerous other Emmys, Edward R. Murrow, Gracies, NABJ Salute To Excellence, Associated Press, and TEGNA Make A Difference awards.
In 2012, Ms. Foster established Girlfriends Give Back, an event that introduces women to everyday philanthropy through the power of a small donation. The money is directed to small but impactful organizations that change the trajectory of families through their services.

Journalist and Alumna Lesli Foster to Emcee Howard University Charter Day Dinner with a Performance from Award-Winning Vocalist Yolanda Adams
WASHINGTON – Howard University proudly announces alumna Lesli Foster will serve as mistress of ceremonies for the 153rd Charter Day Dinner on Saturday, March 7, 2020. Foster is an award-winning journalist and mainstay of Washington news as a weeknight anchor for WUSA9. The entertainment for the evening will be Grammy Award-winning Vocalist Yolanda Adams. Foster is part of WUSA9’s Special Assignment Unit – leading the station’s “Impact” coverage, which tackles community issues. She joined the station in 2001 and has covered the major events of the times. Foster graduated from Howard University in 1997 and is a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated, National Association of Black Journalists, International Women’s Forum DC and the Potomac Valley Chapter of Jack and Jill of America. Journalism, she says, is her life’s work, and feeds her drive to make a difference in the lives of people.
The legendary Yolanda Adams still wows audiences all over the world, ever since her 1988 debut album, “Just As I Am.” With 12 albums, five Grammys and performances for se With a background in social work and over two decades of experience in child welfare and behavioral health, Lesli understands the specific needs of the children served by The Home for Little Wanderers and how best to meet them. Throughout her career, Lesli has worked with children and families in a variety of different roles and settings, including residential and special education, adoption and foster care, community mental health, sexual abuse and trauma. Her passion, dedication, direct service expertise and extensive knowledge of the field of child welfare place her in a unique position to lead The Home. Lesli joined The Home in January 2011 as Senior Director of Community Based and Behavioral Health Programs and then became the Vice President for Program Operations. In January 2018, she was named President and CEO, becoming the first social worker in a generation to head the agency. Overseeing more than 1,000 employees, Lesli is charged with ensuring that every one of The Home’s 30+ programs are succeeding in making a positive impact on the lives of children and families across the Northeast. Lesli holds an M.S. in Social Work from Simmons College. She received her B.A. in Social Work from Texas Christian University. Before joining The Home, Lesli served as Vice President of Program for Communities for People in Boston and Assistant Vice President at Health and Education Services on the North Shore. Lesli’s leadership in the field of child welfare is also apparent through her membership on a variety of boards of directors. She serves on the Executive Committee at the Children’s League of Massachusetts and co-chairs the taskforce on transitional age youth. She is also on the Board of Directors for the Providers’ Council, as well as the Association for Behavioral Healthcare.
