Peter ‘Navy’ Tuiasosopo, ‘Street Fighter’ and ‘New Girl’ Actor, Dies at 61
Peter “Navy” Tuiasosopo, an actor who appeared in “Necessary Roughness,” “12 Rounds,” “Street Fighter” and “New Girl,” died Monday in Phoenix at the age of 61.
His son Manoah Peter Tuiasosopo confirmed the death on Facebook.
“With a heavy heart, my family and I want to thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers. Our father Peter N. Tuiasosopo passed away this morning at 3:16am. My dad lived an amazing life and in no way does his impact stop here. We will continue to live with him in spirit, and as saddened as we are, he is without a doubt in Heaven with his brothers, sisters, parents, daughter, and Jesus, and no longer in pain,” Manoah wrote.
Manoah told TMZ Tuiasosopo’s death was due to heart complications.
Tuiasosopo acted in a variety of film and television roles, including the 1991 football film “Necessary Roughness,” as Manumana. He played E. Honda in 1994’s “Street Fighter,” a video game adaptation. He appeared in an episode of “The Jamie Foxx Show,” played a guard in “The Fast and the Furious” and played Kaleo in eight episodes of “Hawaii.”
He went on to act as Willie Dumaine in the 2009 film “12 Rounds,” starring John Cena. Tuiasosopo was in several episodes of the shows “Easy Money” and “The Young and the Restless,” as well as “New Girl” as the characters Steve and Big Bob. He additionally acted in an episode each of “NCIS” “Black-ish” and “Magnum P.I.”
Born in San Pedro, Calif., he started out as a football player before turning to acting.

Actor Peter Navy Tuiasosopo, best knwon for roles in Street Fighter, Necessary Roughness and The Fast and the Furious, has died at the age of 61, his son, Manoah peter Tuiasosopo confirmed in a post shared on his Facebook account.
"With a heavy heart, my family and I want to thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers. Our father Peter N. Tuiasosopo passed away this morning at 3:16am," Manoah wrote in a post shared on behalf of the family. "My dad lived an amazing life and in no way does his impact stop here. We will continue to live with him in spirit, and as saddened as we are, he is without a doubt in Heaven with his brothers, sisters, parents, daughter, and Jesus, and no longer in pain.
"His strength, love, compassion, and kindness will forever be felt. My family and I will discuss the decisions regarding a proper Celebration of Life and will announce the details once prepared. We thank you all again for your thoughts and prayers and ask for your continued support through this tough and emotional time."
Tuiasosopo made his acting debut as Manumana 'the Slender,' who played center for the fictional Texas State Fighting Armadillos football team in the film Necessary Roughness in 1991. The California native made his television debut playing detective Al Hamoki opposite late Batman and Family Guy actor Adam West on Danger Theatre, a half-hour comedy anthology that aired on FOX in 1993.
Tuiasosopo is also credited for a recurring role as 'Big Bob' on New Girl and made guest appearances on NCIS, Mob City, Ray Donovan, black-ish, Mayans M.C. and Magnum P.I., while also appearing in the films 12 Rounds, Batman & Robin, BASEketball, Charlie's Angels, Austin Powers in Gold Member and The Scorpion King.

Peter Navy Tuiasosopo, best known for his roles in Street Fighter and Necessary Roughness, has died. He was 61.
The late actor's son Manoah confirmed his death in a Facebook post shared on Monday, Feb. 10, writing, “With a heavy heart… our father Peter N. Tuiasosopo passed away this morning at 3:16 a.m.”
“My dad lived an amazing life and in no way does his impact stop here,” he continued. “We will continue to live with him in spirit, and as saddened as we are, he is without a doubt in Heaven with his brothers, sisters, parents, daughter, and Jesus, and no longer in pain.”
“His strength, love, compassion, and kindness will forever be felt,” he added, noting that celebration of life details were being prepared and would be announced at a later date.
Paying Tribute to the Celebrities Who Have Died in 2024
Manoah confirmed to TMZ — who first broke the story — that his father died in Phoenix, Arizona after experiencing heart complications. He described his father to the outlet as "a trailblazer for Polynesian actors in Hollywood."
Peter began his acting career in the 90s with a role as Manumana in Necessary Roughness before going on to star in Street Fighter as E. Honda, who was a popular character in the videogame series. He also played Ed Tuttle in BASEketball.
