Mario Adrián Vázquez (born June 15, 1977) is a Puerto Rican-American singer from The Bronx, New York, U.S. He competed on American Idol's fourth season, which aired on the FOX network in early 2005.
Vasquez is a former student of La Guardia High School of Performing Arts. He was also involved in the City Kids Repertoire Company in New York City, which enabled him to travel the country and perform in front of the President and at major charitable functions and shelters.
After making it into the final round of twelve contestants Vazquez suddenly dropped out of the competition for "family reasons" a few days before the finals started. When the press contacted his mother regarding his decision, she wasn't aware that he had made it to the finals. Vazquez was replaced by Nikko Smith who had previously been voted out.
Some believed that Vazquez quit the show in order to avoid the highly restrictive contracts that the final twelve must sign. Some speculate he quit realizing he was not the viewer favorite the producers had planned for him to be. Vazquez, however, appeared the next morning on "Good Day New York" on WNYW FOX5, and squashed rumors of a feud with "American Idol" producers or any of his competitors. "American Idol was only positive. They were only wonderful to me, from the beginning through the middle, to the end," he told the show. "It had nothing to do with the contract or anything signed with J Records." J Records is the same company that manages Idol winners Ruben Studdard and Fantasia Barrino.
His first single "Gallery" written by Ne-Yo who also co-produced the vocals on the track, was one of the most added records at Rhythm radio stations across the country its first week out. The track was sent out to Top 40 radio on April 17, 2006 and was made available through all digital retailers as a single release on May 2, 2006. After graduating high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Army National Guard and moved to the United States. Mario also worked as a postal worker for the U.S. Postal Service in Stratford, Connecticut. His father is an electronic technician and amateur photographer. His mother is a nurse and teacher. Today Mario is an artist and educator, two inherited talents passed on by his parents.
During his time in the U.S. Army active duty service, he completed his associate degree from Central Texas College, Killeen, Texas. After his military service completion, he obtained his bachelor's and master's degree in Art Education from Southern Connecticut State University, New Haven, Connecticut. After becoming an Art educator, he obtained his Specialist in Education degree from Barry University in Miami, Florida. He received his doctorate in Higher Education Administration from Nova Southeastern University, Davie, Florida. Mario has taught Art to high school and college students for over two decades. He currently resides in South Florida.

Mario Vázquez Raña (June 7, 1932 - February 8, 2015) was a Mexican businessman and sports administrator, who served on both national and Olympic committees. He served as a member of the executive board of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC) until 2012. He was the President of the Pan American Sports Organization (PASO).
On April 5, 2008, Vázquez Raña received international press attention for his statement that the situation in Tibet "is a Chinese problem" that is "not an issue for the Olympic Games."
Career
On 15 March 2012 he resigned from the IOC, IOC Executive Board and as the head of the Association of National Olympic Committees. He also resigned from being the President of the Olympic Solidarity Commission. He continued to serve as the head of the Pan American Sports Organization.
2012 Controversy
In 2012, Vázquez Raña came under media scrutiny for allegedly manipulating news stories in newspapers controlled by the Organización Editorial Mexicana in favor of Enrique Peña Nieto, presidential candidate of the Institutional Revolutionary Party.
On May 11, 2012, Enrique Peña Nieto gave a speech at the Universidad Iberoamericana in Mexico City as part of his 2012 presidential campaign. He was jeered by the general student population upon arrival, but was allowed to deliver his remarks. Multiple newspapers belonging to the Organización Editorial Mexicana including El Sol de México and Diario de Xalapa covered the story by printing identical headlines labeling Peña Nieto's speech a "success" after an attempted "boycott" by leftist activists.
