Biography

Canadian-American actor Torrance Coombs found his most successful showcase as period heartthrobs and rogues in costume television dramas like "The Tudors" (Showtime, 2007-2010), "Reign" (The CW, 2013-17) and "Still Star-Crossed" (ABC, 2017- ). Born June 14, 1983 in Vancouver, British Columbia, he began performing primarily as a means of alleviating his shyness, which he conquered through roles in high school productions and singing in the school choir. However, he considered acting a secondary interest until he successfully auditioned for and gained entry into the drama program at the University of British Columbia; now convinced that his future lay in performing, he earned his bachelor of fine arts degree in acting and appeared in several stage productions in his native Vancouver. He made his screen debut in a 2007 episode of "Supernatural" (The WB/CW, 2005 - ) before landing his first series regular work on "jPod" (CBC, 2008), a comedy based on the novel by Douglas Coupland about eccentric employees at a gaming company. From there, Coombs worked steadily as a recurring performer on several high-profile Canadian television series, including the U.S.-British co-production "The Tudors" (Showtime, 2007-2010) as the ill-fated groom Thomas Culpepper, and "Endgame" (Showcase, 2011) as the assistant to an agoraphobic chess champion turned amateur sleuth. His breakout role came in 2013 with "Reign," which cast him as Sebastian, a.k.a. "Bash," who rivaled his own brother, the French prince Francis, for the affections of Mary, Queen of Scots. Coombs remained a regular on the series until its third season, when he joined the cast of ABC's "Still Star-Crossed," a revisionist take on William Shakespeare's "Romeo and Juliet" for producer Shonda Rhimes.
