Currently in the casting stage, the miniseries about the life of Pantoja is to be shot in Spain. The Pantoja biopic will be one of a series of telefilms about Latin celebrities produced by BFT Media, who produced previous telefilms under a production and distribution deal with Disney Latin America, according to an announcement about the Pantoja biopic from Universal Music Spain, the singer’s label; others have brought the lives of Mexican singer Juan Gabriel (“Hasta Que Te Conoci”) and boxer Julio Cesar Chavez to the small screen. BFT also co-produced the dramatic recreation of Jenni Rivera’s last days, “Su Nombre Era Dolores, La Jenni Que Yo Conocí,” which aired on Univision. Pantoja will have a say in casting and other aspects of the creative process of the new biopic, BTF Media CEO Francisco Cordero told Spain’s El Mundo newspaper. BTW is producing the bioseries in partnership with Spain’s Garage Films. The 60-year-old performer has been a household name in Spain and, by extension, Latin America since the 1970s. Pantoja has sold some six million albums and released over 30 recordings. A native of Triana, a Seville neighborhood that breeds flamenco artists, Pantoja first danced in a flamenco show at age seven, and started singing professionally while still in her teens. Her notoriety increased with her 1983 marriage to Francisco Rivera “Paquirri,” a star bullfighter. When Paquirri was killed in the ring in 1984, the raven-haired singer became known as “the widow of Spain.” The Spanish icon entered a women’s prison in her native Andalusia in November 2014 after being charged with money In Spain, singer Isabel Pantoja is considered one of the greatest vocal practitioners of the traditional copla in history. Though her Andalusian take on the folk style is highly orchestrated, her detailed attention to narrative, melody, drama, and rhythm, are singular. Since the mid-'80s, she has expanded her repertoire to include romantic pop ballads with no damage done to her stature. Pantoja's beloved musical reputation has been buoyed by a storied life filled with awards -- more than 40 platinum-certified records -- tragedy, and misadventure (including a two-year prison stint for being an accomplice to money laundering), as well as an emergency medical evacuation from a remote island during her period of competing in the Spanish edition of the television series Survivor. Fue por Tu Voz, her 1974 debut album, revealed an artist who arrived fully formed, moving through an intense series of modern and traditional coplas and tonadillas (Spanish theatrical song). 1988's Desde Andalucia (produced by Juan Gabriel) resulted in her first international chart-topping album, though more than 18 of her more than 30 recordings have ended up in the Top Ten in Spain. Her close friendship with the late singer, songwriter, and producer Gabriel from 1985 until his death in 2016 resulted in several hit duets and singles of her own, culminating in her participation on the number three tribute album Juan Gabriel... El Divo y Sus Divas and show-stopping performance of his songs at the 2017 Festival de Viña in Chile. While continuing to record and tour, she has been both a host and judge on several music competition reality television series. Raised in a working-class family, the daughter of a male flamenco singer and a female dancer, Pantoja was strongly influenced by her parents to become an artist, debuting on-stage at the age of seven. As a teenager, Pantoja joined a dance group; she later moved to Madrid where she met Juan Solano and they decided to work together. The singer de Spanish singer In this Spanish name, the first or paternal surname is Pantoja and the second or maternal family name is Martín. María Isabel Pantoja Martín (Spanish pronunciation:[isaˈβelpanˈtoxa]; born August 2, 1956) is a Spanish singer. She was born in the Triana district of Seville, Spain. She has released more than a dozen albums throughout a career spanning many decades, mostly of copla genre, and is known for her distinctive Andalusian style. She was born in a Romani family of musicians. Both her father and grandfather were singers. Pantoja began performing precociously at the age of seven in the flamenco ensemble of her cousin Chiquetete. At 17 she met her "maestro" Juan Solano Pedrero, who wrote her first hits along with writer and poet Rafael de León. Pantoja cultivated copla, a genre in decline at the moment that she popularised again. Some of her early hits were "El Pájaro Verde", "Garlochí" or "El Señorito". In 1983 she released her first pop album, Cambiar por ti, which included the same-title song, "En la Niebla", or "Nada". From that moment, Pantoja alternated ballads and romantic songs with copla. On April 30, 1983, she married bullfighter Francisco Rivera Pérez "Paquirri"; the wedding was widely covered by the Spanish media as they were both popular and successful and they embodied a romantic Spain stereotype of the bullfighter and the "tonadillera". On September 26, 1984, he died in the bullring; Pantoja became known as "Spain's widow" in the media and a regular cover on gossip magazines. After a prolonged hiatus, she released the album Marinero de Luces, composed by José Luis Perales, that sold one million copies in Spain. In 1988, she released Desde Andalucía, an album produced by Mexican singer and songwriter Juan Gabriel. In 1989 she released Se me enamora el alma, her most commercial album, with modern programmed beats, composed by Perales. In 1990, Pantoja st Isabel Pantoja Biopic in the Works
